What are clogged pores and blackheads?
Clogged pores appear as tiny skin colored or reddish bumps on the skin. Pores become blocked with dead cells that mix with sebum and forma soft “plug” that blocks the sebum released from the sebaceous glands. This then swells inside the pore duct and creates a small bump on the surface. Your skin feels rough and uneven. Blackheads are clogged pores that continue to enlarge. The black color is due to pigments darkening when exposed to light (oxidation). Clogged pores and blackheads are usually associated with oily skin , but may sometimes occur with other skin conditions. Excessive blackheads may occur during times of hormonal changes (i.e. during puberty or later in life). Treatment is the same in all cases.
