What are Chronic Pain and Illness?
While acute pain is a very natural and essential function of the human body, it alerts of a possible injury and the need to be cautious, chronic pain is different. Pain that continues for more than three months and is not relieved by standard medical management is considered to be a chronic condition. Chronic pain may be a result of a previous injury long since healed or it may have an ongoing cause, such as arthritis, cancer, nerve damage, or chronic infection. With chronic pain or illness, normal lifestyles can be constrained or even impossible.
