What are CEUs?
CEUs are nationally recognized to record satisfactory completion of certain approved occupationally-related programs. One CEU is awarded for each 10 contact hours of instruction included in a specified continuing education program or activity. Successful completion is attendance-based unless otherwise noted. Ninety percent attendance is required for successful completion of most classes. Some classes require 100% attendance.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for all program & classes offered in our bulletin for a fee of $20 per course. CEUs provide a permanent record of the educational accomplishments of those who have completed a significant number of hours in non-credit courses, specialized training, professional workshops, seminars or conferences. One CEU is equal to 10 contact hours of instruction. Upon completion and verification of attendance, students receive an official Pierce College CEU certificate documenting the class and number of CEUs earned. Please ask for CEU’s when you register for a class. Return to top. CEU’s for Outside Organizations: We also work with outside organizations to sponsor CEUs for non-credit workshops and training sessions or conferences. Prior approval of course content and registration through Pierce College is required. If your business or organization is interested in offering CEUs for employee or member training, please give us a call before you set up yo
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally recognized method of quantifying the time spent in the classroom during professional development and training activities. Typically, ten contact hours of instruction (50-60 minutes) or participation in an organized, lifelong learning/continuing education experience with a qualified instructor equates to one CEU.
In order to ensure proper granting of CEUs and to maintain permanent institutional records for individuals receiving CEUs, all requests for CEUs will be processed through University College; and approved by the Office of the Provost (including requests for certificates bearing the university name and/or seal). Granting of CEUs will only be considered under the following guidelines: • Florida Tech faculty design, direct and evaluate the program. • Florida Tech has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the educational provider and has reviewed and approved the granting of CEUs in advance. • Florida Tech is a partner in a joint offering with Florida Tech and an educational provider. In all cases, the following must be approved by University College before the programs are offered for CEUs: • The program or activity must be planned in response to the educational needs of a target population or clientele group. • A clear statement of rationale, purpose and goal must be prepared for each
In 1970 a national task force of volunteers met to establish a form of credit for continuing education different from the semester system used in higher education. That credit was named the “Continuing Education Unit” and has come to be known as the “CEU”. A CEU is defined as: “Ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.” The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) is the founder and guardian of the CEU and determines the criteria for awarding CEUs. Corexcel is an authorized provider of the CEU. Corexcel has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. In obtaining this approval, Corexcel has demonstrated that it complies with the ANSI/IACET 1-2007 Standard which is widely recognized as the Standard of good practice
