Ans: Generally speaking Carpet Area is the area of the apartment/building, which does not include the area of the walls. The actual used area of an apartment/office unit/showroom etc. In simple terms, it is that area within the walls where you can actually lay a carpet. It is the super built-up area minus the thickness of the walls and the proportionate share of the common areas. Built up Area includes the area of the walls also.
