What Are Capitalists Political Resources Under Capitalism?
From a liberal standpoint, we are all politically equal because we are all legally equal and there are competing political parties. Ah of us can vote, buy politicians, or move our establishments to Delaware if tax laws or unions become troublesome, and none of us, poor or rich, can sleep under bridges. From a liberal standpoint, since the parties need every vote, and since the capitalist class is tiny, its influence must be tiny. From a Marxist standpoint, we live in a “dictatorship of the bourgeoisie.” We live in a state that capitalists constructed to protect their property. Laws are written so we lose every decisive encounter with capitalist interests. Both political parties are funded and dominated by capitalists, who own the politicians. A million people rot in jail, tens of millions of people are threatened, and hundreds of millions of people are gradually squeezed dry in testimony to capitalists’ power.
