What are Canada Savings Bonds (CSBs) and Canada Premium Bonds (CPBs)?
Both the Canada Savings Bond (CSB) and Canada Premium Bond (CPB) are offered by the Government of Canada and can be purchased through CIBC. The CSB offers guaranteed returns and the option to redeem at any time. The interest rates on these bonds are evaluated by the Minister of Finance at a set interval and rates may rise over the course of the bond issue. The CPB offers a higher rate of interest at time of issue than the CSB on sale at the same time. The CPB can be redeemed only once a year on the anniversary of the issue date and during the 30 days thereafter. Interest rates on these bonds, once issued, will not fluctuate. You can get current rate information and purchase CSBs and CPBs through your local CIBC branch Current interest rate information is also available on the Government of Canada’s Canada Savings Bonds website. These bonds are available for purchase from early October to April 1 each year. For specific issue dates and bond series information, visit the Government of Ca
