What are California Probations Rules for Megans Law Offenders?
Megan’s Law refers to statutes enacted that define the registration requirements of sex offenders and public notification requirements when a sex offender moves into a neighborhood. The law is named after Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl that was raped and murdered by a convicted sex offender who, unbeknownst to the Kankas, had moved across the street from the family upon release from prison. California’s statute exempts public notification requirements for certain probationary offenders. General Requirements All sex offenders, upon release from prison or sentenced to probation, are required to register as sex offenders with the their local law enforcement agency. With the exception of certain crimes for which an offender has been given probation, the offender is also subject to inclusion on the sex offenders online registry which is viewable by the public. Some crimes allow for exclusion from the online database but still require registration with law enforcement. Sexual Battery by Rest
