What are boots and braces for?

Immediately after your injury and your surgery, we like for you to wear your boots/ braces at all times in order to protect the repair that was done. It is imperative that you wear your boots/braces when you are ambulating. This provides protection and also keeps your body in the correct alignment as you are healing. We also ask that you take your boot/brace off 3 times every day and check your skin to make sure the incisions are healing well, and to check your skin for any redness or blisters. If you notice anything unusual, you should call our office. Once we tell you that you can start weaning out of your boot, we typically we have you wear the boot at night to help keep your ankle stretched. Unless you are otherwise instructed, please continue to wear the boot while you sleep until we have you discontinue it completely.
