What are bookmarks and how do I create them?
Bookmarks help a reader navigate through your ETD. Typically, bookmarks will include all chapter and major headings and at least first-level subheadings for the entire document. The easiest way to create bookmarks is to use Microsoft Word styles to generate your ETD’s table of contents, list of figures and list of tables. If you are not using Word styles or you have printed to PDF rather than converting, you will need to create bookmarks manually. To do this, simply select the headings or subheadings in question within the PDF, right-click the mouse, and choose “New Bookmark” from the dialog box. In all cases, bookmark language, hierarchy and formatting should match exactly the rest of the document.
