What are blood cultures and how long do the results take?
A blood culture is a test to see what particular germ is present in the blood that may be causing an infection. After the specimen is drawn, it will be placed in two different bottles. The two bottles contain substances that will allow microbial organisms to grow over a period of time. You can expect a partial or preliminary result in 24 to 72 hours and a final result in 5 to 7 days.
