What are blacklists and whitelists?
A blacklist is an access control mechanism that means, “allow everybody, except members of the blacklist.” Antispam refers to its blacklist as Blocked Senders. If a sender’s address is on one of Antispam’s blacklists, messages from that sender will either be discarded (Extremely Blocked Senders blacklist) or quarantined in the Blocked Messages section of Antispam (System and Personal blacklists). A whitelist is an access control method which means, “allow nobody, except members of the white list.” Antispam refers to its whitelist as Approved Senders. Messages orginating from the listed addresses and/or domains will always be allowed. Whitelists are used to reduce the incidence of false positives, often based on the assumption that most legitimate mail will be from a relatively small and fixed set of senders.
