What are bibliographic databases / databases / Library databases?
Bibliographic databases (also called ‘databases’ or ‘Library databases’) contain information about publications such as periodical articles, books, book chapters, conference papers and government documents. It’s important to remember two things about them. (1) Most bibliographic databases contain information about the documents, NOT the documents themselves. (2) Bibliographic databases are commercial products. They aren’t based on the contents of our Library or any other library, so documents that you find using bibliographic databases may or may not be in our Library. The details provided in the database (which may well include a summary (abstract) of the document) will enable you to use the Library Catalogue to see if they are available or not. If the document you need is not in our Library you may be able to order it via the Library’s Interlibrary Loans Service.
