What are basic automobile accident statistics?
In 2005, there were about 6,420,000 automobile accidents in the United States. The estimated annual cost of these accidents was $230 billion dollars, with about 115 people dying daily in a crash. Statistically, this reduces to about one death every 13 minutes. The main causes of automobile accidents are reckless and negligent driving and alcohol consumption. Other distractions include cell phone use, eating or drinking while driving, and fidgeting with a radio or mp3 player.
