What are automated meters and how do they work?
The new automated meters use secure radio signals to transmit data to a receiver. Instead of entering your yard, a meter reader collects information by driving near a customer’s home in a vehicle equipped with a computer and a radio receiver. It is called the Mobile Meter Reading program, or MMR. The new meters will be more efficient and more accurate than current technology. Although they are the same size as existing meters, the new meters will look different – they have a digital display instead of the traditional dials.
