What are Asanas and what do they do?
People come to class to learn and practice asanas (or physical poses). There are 108 poses that are taught. Many benefits are received from practicing the asanas. Stress is reduced, the mind is calmed or stabilized, back & joint pain can be eliminated, posture and alignment is improved. Energy, strength & balance increase and metabolism regulated. Hatha yoga is an effective mental and physical therapy. It is an inexpensive form of preventative healthcare, one which can actually improve the quality of your life. But it is also so much more. How so? How can all these different types of yoga ultimately mean “union” or “union with Consciousness”? Because when one practices any of these forms of yoga; the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual barriers start to dissolve and we become more integrated, more unified within ourselves.
