What are areas of high ecological significance?
Identifying and mapping areas of the Queensland coast that are considered to have high ecological value is a major initiative of the Queensland Coastal Plan. Mapped areas of high ecological significance include the protected area estate; endangered and of concern regional ecosystems; core essential habitat for threatened species, shorebirds and sea turtles; significant wetlands; coastal dunes; marine national parks; and marine park zones relating to research or protection.
