What are antiphospholipid antibodies? Do they have implications to my health later on?
Antiphospholipid antibodies are a family of auto-antibodies (antibodies which act against your own tissues that are strongly associated with recurrent pregnancy loss and thrombosis (blood clots). Since the condition was only discovered in 1983, very little is known about the long term health implications of antiphospholipid antibodies. Indeed we are currently trying to address this important question as we are carrying out a long-term follow up study in women with a history of recurrent miscarriage in association with antiphospholipid antibodies and the possible health implications.
