What are Anthocyanins and does the Acai berry have them?
Fruits with darker colors have higher levels of anthocyanins, which are flavanoid pigments that provide protection from the suns harmful rays. Anthocyanins have antioxidant properties and rather amazingly are transferrable from plant to human, if digested. This means that consuming the Acai berry enables you to benefit from the natural potency of this fruit. Examples of other fruits with high levels of anthocyanins are blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, red grapes (think wine) and aubergines. This is not an exhaustive list, but it gives you an idea. If you know your health foods, you will recognise that each of these foodstuffs are highly nutritious and so emphasises the importance of anthocyanins.
