What are animals that can breath in and out of water called?
While I am not sure what animals can actually breathe under water and dry air or what they are called, I am sure that amphibians cannot do both at the same stage in their life. Amphibians are animals that spend atleast one phase of their life on land and one phase in the water. Some split their whole lives between land and water and most (if not all) actually need water to lay their eggs in and for their young to develop and mature in. They do have lungs however, and breathe dry air as mature animals.
Most amphibians spend a part of their life in water, and a part on land, and breath both underwater and air, respectivey, like the previous answer says. however, amphibians can also breath through their skin, and so can absorb oxygen through water when submerged. also, there are some species of fish that can breath both in and out of the water. the lungfish, for example, has both gills and small lungs, and can breath both underwater and on land. The mud puppy, or mud skipper, can also spend several hours breathing air. but i can’t remember if it gets the oxygen through small lungs or through its gills.
