What are AMVs?
AMV is short for Anime Music Video, a fandom which has risen significantly in popularity in the past few years and is now considered a main event at most anime conventions. In an AMV, the editor takes footage from anime that already exists, and re-edits the clips to music. These videos can range from simple (only using cuts and fades) to complex (using complicated effects) and beyond (custom art, filters, and even software to render a certain sequence). At anime conventions, one of the main events is usually the AMV Competition, in which the fans (or judges) vote on the best of the best that were submitted to the con. In 2001, Phade created animemusicvideos.org, a resource for AMV-makers everywhere and a directory of all AMVs ever created. AMV.Org also offers free hosting for all AMV-makers, and a community in which editors can discuss their craft, offer advice, and plan their next big project. What’s anime? In its basic form, anime is a term for animation originating from Japan. Note
