When they did the above Part 150 Study we spoke many times with the consultants, FAA and County officials. We recommended departure at 270 degrees over the golf course and lagoon to the north, which would minimize going over homes and LegoLand. They said that going over a golf course is considered ideal for plane takeoffs (no buildings and few people), but the lagoon has creatures in it that have intolerance to over 65 decibels (???) and would require environmental studies and coastal commission. This is a shame as these processes can be effective at blocking changes. Also, they said there was safety hazard due to planes arriving by coast from the north, turning east in that area to make their approach for landing – thus having planes coming and going in the same area would cause congestion and safety hazards. Also, when Santa Ana winds are in force, they reverse the pattern and pilots will land going east bound. At any other time they can land that way also if they check with the towe
