WHAT ARE ALPHA, BETA AND GAMMA RADIATION?
There are three different types of nuclear radiation: alpha (a ), beta (b) and gamma (g) radiation. [Alpha, beta and gamma are just the first three letters of the Greek alphabet – we are really talking about radiation types A, B and C!] Alpha and beta radiation are particles. Gamma radiation is a wave. Alpha particles are small lumps of the nucleus. They are always two protons and two neutrons, all as one lump.
