What are all these funny abbreviations that people are using in the chat lists? I don know what AFK, RL, or DLG are – how can I find out?
Many of our members spend a lot of time online every day, and have adopted common internet slang. Some of the more common abbreviations are: • AFK – Away from Keyboard – usually used when someone will be away for a few days, not more than 2 or 3 weeks • LOA – Leave of Absence – refers to a Council-approved release from posting duties for a span of up to 3 months, often because of overwhelming work loads, lack of internet service, moving/travel, or military deployment. • RL – Real Life. • RT – Real Time. • PT – Pern Time. • DLG – refers to the Dragon Lover’s Guide to Pern, by Jody Lynn Nye. • *g*/*eg*/*sg*/*mg* – refers to the writer giving a grin, evil grin, silly grin or mischievous grin If you see someone use an abbreviation that you are unfamiliar with and not listed above, please feel free to drop them a note to ask about it.
