What are all the positions in softball and what do they do?
pitcher-pitches an underhand throw (pitch) to a catcher catcher-position that catches the pitches and basiclly plays homeplate 1st base-covers 1st base and gets any balls hit close to them 2nd base-stands in between 1st base and 2nd base and gets any balls hit close to them covers 2nd base when ball is hit towards short stop and 3rd base short stop-stands in between 2nd base and 3rd base gets any ball hit close to them covers 2nd when ball is hit towards 2nd base and 1st base 3rd-one of the easiest positions covers 3rd base and gets any ball hit close to them outfield (usually 3 sometimes 4 playing at a time, rightfield centerfield and leftfield)-covers all outfield territory backs up entire infield has to run lots, be in great shape and be able to dive for a ball 3rd base is probally the easiest if you have a good arm if you are 12 years or older i would say try 3rd base. if you are younger play where ever you want to try. good luck in trying out. i hope you make it.
