Chiropractors and optometrists are not medical specialties. They do not go to medical school. They go to specialized programs that only teach their specific thing. In the US, medical doctors are MDs or DOs. They are both 4 year medical school programs. After medical schools, they become doctors but must do a residency to become licensed and to specialize. Its at that time they choose to do a residency in say Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine. Here is a list of specialties: http://www.sochconnect.com/doctor.html You probably already know a lot of the specialties: Family Medicine (your family doctor) Pediatrician – baby doctor Internal Medicine – hospital doctor, also called an Internist (not intern!) Anesthesiologist – numbs people for surgeries, and keeps them alive Surgeons – surgery docs, they often specialize in 1 type of surgery Nephrologists – kidney doctors Orthopedic Surgeon – bone doctor Neurologist – brain
