What are Alberta Official Statistics?
Alberta Official Statistics are publicly available facts and information that describe conditions or changes taking place in the province over time or by geographical area. They pertain to social, economic, environmental and other key issues. Consultations with Government of Alberta ministries and external stakeholders identified what was needed in a suite of official statistics to support policy and decision making. The selection of Alberta Official Statistics was based on how well the statistics met the needs of stakeholders, how rigorous and credible the statistics were, whether they were judged reliable and accurate (e.g., relevant supporting data, best methodology, most timely) and if they could be compared over time and place. Also, the resources needed to get or produce the statistics were considered. Recommendations and decisions on the composition of the initial suite of Alberta Official Statistics were made by the GOA Statistics Council and the Knowledge and Data Sharing Assi
