What are Africas main languages?
Africa is a continent, it has many hundreds of native languages. Most countries have either English or French as an official language. Originally these languages were brought to Africa by the colonial powers, but since most African countries have many dozens of indigenous languages, it made sense for people to use the language of the colonists to talk to each other. Swahili is an important language in east Africa, especially around Zanzibar (and elsewhere in Tanzania). Orginally brought in by Arab traders from the north, it is now a local language for many millions of Africans. Arabic is spoken north of the Sahara in Morocco, Egypt, Libya, and other countries along the north coast. Indigenous languages are often Bantu family, and are usually spoken only in a local aread (though the larger languages can still number many millions of speakers).
