What are advantages and disadvantages of composite resin filling?
Composite resin fillings are tooth colored and can be matched to the color of the rest of the teeth. They are bonded to the tooth structure chemically so there is no need for mechanical lock as the metal fillings do. Therefore they require less tooth structure reduction. When the composite resin fillings are cured they will shrink a little. The shrinkage can put stress on the tooth structure thus causing temporary post-operation sensitivity. The symptoms will gradually go away once the stresses within the tooth structure are released.
