What are a volunteer dispatchers responsibilities*?
Dispatchers take the AADD phone for one week at a time, Monday through Sunday. They must be available to take calls from 2100 to 0200 Sunday through Thursday, and 2100 to 0400 Friday, Saturday, and Holidays. It is a small cell phone, so they are free to go out and do whatever they might normally do, as long as they can hear the phone and handle the calls. When receiving a call, the dispatcher collects the callers first name, number of passengers, gender of passengers (we send female drivers for females, males for males, and either for mixed groups), location and directions, what the caller is wearing to help the driver identify them, and a call-back number if possible. (We have log sheets to guide dispatchers through collecting the info.) They then call the appropriate driver and pass on the information.
