What are a few things that Ramesses II found important?
Ramesses II was a pharoah of the 19th Dynasty in Egypt’s New Kingdom. He had an exceptionally long reign for an Egyptian pharoah and one of his main considerations was securing Egypt’s borders and keeping hold of the empire. Possibly his biggest threat were the Hittites, who had an empire in the region of what is now modern Turkey. Ramesses was trying to reestablish the Egyptian empire in Syria, and fought a great battle with the Hittities at Kadesh. Although Ramesses claimed a victory, it was more like a stalemate and the two sides sued for peace. A few years later the two sides signed one of the first peace treaties in history. Ramesses II moved his capital to a new city, Pi-Ramesses in the Delta and also built a string of forts across the eastern Delta to protect Egypt’s borders.
