What Are 4 Ways That Smoking Damages the Lungs?
Smoking is one of the leading causes of cancer in many parts of the body. It is a known cause of many diseases including heart disease, respiratory illnesses and heart disease. The list goes on and on, but for the time being I am only going to outline 4 ways that smoking damages the lungs. 1. Cigarettes contain a chemical called hydrogen cyanide. This chemical reduces the number of and paralyses an organelle in the lungs called cilia. Cilia are crucial because their function is to clear the lungs of foreign substances. Without them the lungs fill up with all sorts of things that do not belong. 2. We’ve all seen the pictures of smoker’s lungs compared to a non-smoker. Tar fills up the lungs and they change in color from a healthy pink to a sickly and disgusting black. This not only looks bad, but with all of that gunk stuck in the lungs they no longer work properly and have a difficult time sending oxygen to the rest of the body. 3. Over time the lungs sustain more and more damage causi
