The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) must approve a Certificate of Need (CON) before the hospital portion of the project can begin. A CON request was submitted by Metro at the beginning of September, MDCH could take until the end of the year to issue a decision. In the interim, the Alliance for Health in Grand Rapids also plans to review the proposal and send an official reaction to the State. Only MDCH has the legal authority to approve the project.
