Antibiotics have long been touted as a medical miracle in many ways. They have been used to wipe out a wide variety of bacteria that make us ill. In doing so, however, we have overused them and certain bacteria strains have developed a resistance to them. MRSA is one. What is an antibiotic? It is a chemical agent that typically starts out naturally and is then modified in labs. Traditionally, antibiotics attack the elements that are harmful to the body, specifically bacteria. That being said, it can also be a viable treatment for fungus and other microorganisms. The key to antibiotics is they attack the bacteria without attacking the health aspects of our bodies. An example of a classic antibiotic known to practically every person is penicillin. For many years, the amazing antibiotic was held up by the medical profession as a cure all for everything. In fact, the thinking went that it might be wise to use these proactively instead of just in reaction to a certain illness or condition.
