What animals and plants are classified as RARE by the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission in Arkansas?
There are several different ways for a plant or animal to be considered rare in Arkansas. These include: Not very many of the species left in the state. Species may be common in other states or places, but because it is on the edge of their range, many species may not exist in Arkansas. There are still many plants and animals that we do not have enough information about, so for that species, the Natural Heritage Commission may have only a few records and count the species as rare until solid data indicates that there are enough species existing to not consider it rare in Arkansas.
