What and where is Lake Vostok?
Lake Vostok is a huge liquid lake under the Ice. Its existence was first suggested by the Russian, Andrei Kapitsa in the late 1950’s, while measuring ice thickness enroute to and from the station. The lake itself was, however, officially confirmed to exist in 1974, by a British team using airborne radar. The Lake was inaccessable, but now the Russians have build a station there with the same name.
