Hi, If you are on Ordinary Maternity Leave – OML – you may be entitled to the following benefits and/or tax credits whilst on OML… WORKING TAX CREDIT – WTC If you have worked at least 16 hours a week before maternity leave began, you will be treated as working whilst on OML amd may be entitled to this. WTC can help with childcare costs whilst you are on OML. CHILD TAX CREDIT – CTC You will most probably be entitled to CTC once your baby is born, CTC is paid at a higher rate for the first year of your baby’s life. If you are awarded CTC of more than the family element, you may be entitled to SSMG – see below! When your tax credits are calculated any maternity allowance, MA, and the first 100 per week of your Statutory Maternity Pay, SMP, is NOT taken into account of your income. Any contratual pay that you recieve will be taken into account as income.
