What alternatives are there for serving a jail sentence?
For most jail sentences, you must schedule the time you intend to begin with the court clerk. A jail sentence must begin within 30 days of the sentencing date unless the judge orders it served immediately or allows more time than 30 days to begin. Because of the generally full capacity of the county jail, serving time on weekends may be limited. Terms of at least 20 days are eligible for work release. County jail staff administers the work release program. Applications for work release are available at the jail.
