What alternative paths to licensure are included in REPA?
The Transition to Teaching (T2T) program was established by law and will continue to be available under REPA. This is a program for a person with a bachelor’s degree in an instructional content area who needs the pedagogy component of a teacher preparation program. All Indiana teacher training institutions must offer a T2T program in each content area for which they have an approved program. Individuals enrolled in a T2T program can be hired by a school corporation if the corporation cannot find a fully licensed teacher in the content area. In this case, the school corporation can request a 3-year nonrenewable T2T Permit. REPA also provides for institutions to offer a “minor” in education to persons who already have a bachelor’s degree in a content area. This is very similar to the T2T program, but it does not have a statutory GPA requirement (T2T does). REPA also continues the Advanced Degree licensing option established in law.
