What air quality monitoring does the council do?
We have been monitoring Air Quality in Reading for over 10 years and at the moment monitor at over 40 locations across the borough. Generally speaking Air Quality in Reading is very good, and historic data shows that pollution levels are dropping. The graph below shows last years average background levels compared with the National Standards. As you can see from the graph the average background levels in Reading for Benzene, Carbon Monoxide and Sulphur Dioxide are about a quarter of the levels stated by the National Air Quality Standards. With Nitrogen Dioxide and Particulates (PM10) being just over 50% of the National Air Quality Standard levels.
