What age should I start getting worried if child is not walking?
I wouldn’t worry unduly. When my son was a baby he didn’t sit up till he was 1 yr old, constantly falling backwards and didn’t walk till he was 2 yr old, despite all the efforts to get him to stand. He would just scrunch his legs up under his chest. He didn’t crawl or try to pull himself up and after many tests, I was told his motor development was impaired. The social worker wanted to rehouse us and use him as an excuse, but I refused. She said if he didn’t walk then by the age of 2 he would be classed as retarded. I refused again, but on my own I cried buckets and buckets. Hi there, my now 3 and a half year old didn’t walk or show any interest in walking until he was 22 months!! When he did walk he was great, no falling over, really confident. I think he didn’t feel ready any earlier! Now he runs around like all the others his age. I know I didn’t walk until I was 2 either. Do see your doctor if you are really concerned but I think you could just give her more time and hold her weight so she gets the hang of the foot movements. It is hard not to worry but all kids develop at different ages. My 17 month old has just started walking in the last month.
