The PPE Directive requires that the necessary examinations and tests are carried out on the model to establish conformity with harmonised standards. Testing on the model could be carried out by an approved test house and the results submitted to a Notified Body at a later date. The difficulty arises as to how long ago the testing was carried out and how relevant the reports are to the product being submitted for type approval. At present SATRA will accept ISO 17025 accredited laboratory reports that are up to two years old, but carries out limited check testing where necessary.
