What age is too old to start tennis?

You are never too old to start playing tennis; it is the “sport of a lifetime”. However, if you mean professionally as in WTT, you’ve waited too long. All of those kids playing are 15 now, and have been playing since they were very young. And if you were thinking US Open, well, that would give you 5 years to do what they have done in a lifetime; most pros have had personal trainers, personal coaches, and daily lessons and workouts since they were 12 or 13. However, you can definitely play USTA, and you can play local tournaments when you’re older. Hate to say it, but you’d have to be one heck of a prodigy to make it big at that age. As for the continental grip… I use Eastern, so I can’t help you with that. Best of luck in whatever path you choose to take.
