What age can children learn guitar?
There is no set age. However the size of a child’s hands and his or her natural ability factor in greatly. If a youngster has a "good ear" and can sing along with music or has picked out melodies, even simple onesĀ on a piano or other instrument, chances are they have a natural talent. Don’t forget though that learning any instrument takes time and patience. Steel strings can be very hard on young fingers and I recommend the softer nylon or silk and steel type. There are many children’s or learner’s guitars on the market and you basically get what you pay for. With the attention span of most children ten years-old is a good starting point but if a younger child shows interest I love to see them get the opportunity to further that desire. Playing guitar, whether professionally or for fun is a very good form of therapy for young and old.
