What age can a child start pre school in queensland?
It is a bit tricky because we don’t actually have “preschool” anymore. What we have is a non-compulsory year called Prep which is available in all schools. It is very similar to a preschool program, ie it is play-based, and is an excellent way of preparing a child for year 1 and beyond. A child entering prep must be 5 years old or turning 5 before June 30th of the year that they enrol. If your child is 5 on July 1st, then they must wait until the next year. Some schools, such as private and independent schools, have limited places, whereas a state school will have to find you a place.
