What affect do TweeQers have on the sound?
A. I have found that most trumpet players have not thought about the subject of sound and how it relates to core/overtone balance and projection. In Orchestra Hall in Chicago, the trumpet sound does not project very well nor does it have much impact when the sound finally arrives. Because of this acoustical phenomenon, I have done some experimentation in the hall and followed that up with conversations with Bud Herseth. Bud confirmed my conclusions. The core sound is the part of the sound that projects into the hall. The overtone brilliance or halo(some may refer to this aspect as “brightness”) helps to convey the core sound into the hall. I have heard many accounts from long-time patrons and subscribers talk about the “dark” sound that they heard from Bud. But I remember sitting in the section with Bud and heard a very bright, overtone-dominated sound from him. When TweeQers are added in the most effective locations on the instrument, they help to make the core sound more compact or d
