What advantages does news radio have over TV or print?
Radio is unscripted, and that allows hosts and news anchors to break news with more fluidity than TV reporters (and obviously with more immediacy than print news, though nothing can replace my time thumbing through the morning newspaper). At 6:00 in the morning, it’s easier to convince a key interviewee to speak with a radio station on the phone from bed for a few minutes than it is to convince them to do television. TV reporters have to focus on images. With radio, it’s all about the story. How is radio technology changing, are there new tools, gadgets for your job? Software is always evolving. I already mentioned Adobe Audition, but Apple has amazing software like Pro Tools for projects that used to require a recording artist and thousands of dollars in equipment. Still, I’ve operated audio boards more than 10 years old that work the exactly like all-digital audio boards. The basics stay the same. You may only have worked with one or two audio boards, but you can walk into most radio
