What advantages do traditional media have over emerging media and vice versa?
Traditional media have editors providing over site. This should ensure facts have been checked and sources verified. The key word here is “should”. The race to be first with a breaking news story means too many stories air without being fully fact checked. Many bloggers are independents working with little or no editorial supervision. Some practice journalistic ethics but many are little more than hi-tech versions schoolyard geeks writing rumors on bathroom walls. Sadly, popularity and ratings are too often mistaken for credibility for both traditional and emerging media sources.
