What advantage does being a Registered Nurse in addition to a Certified Doula have?

Both nurses and doulas will emotionally and mentally support you throughout your birth and/or postpartum period. As RN’s, we are trained medical professionals; whereas a doula has no medical training. We have nursing degrees as well as professional licenses which allow us to practice within a larger scope. While we will not interfere with your doctor or nurses, we are experienced maternal/child health providers. We are trained to assess for healthy newborn development and healing of the mother. We are also licensed to evaluate for medical problems and to perform certain medical interventions should they arise.
