There will be a major increase in widows and widowers pensions of 25% and these will be payable for life (not ceasing on remarriage as at present). The death-in-service gratuity has been increased to 4 times pensionable pay from a maximum of 1 times at present. In addition to current provisions for childrens pensions, a new feature will be that children of post-retirement marriages can also receive a pension.
