What activities are within the speech-language pathology assistants scope of practice?
Speech language pathology assistants may only provide services, which are assistive to direct services provided by a supervising Speech-Language Pathologist, and not services which are alternatives to such practice. Consequently, the SLPA shall engage only in those duties planned, designed and supervised by a supervising speech-language pathologist. The assistant may perform the following activities: • Follow treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist who maintains professional responsibility for the plans of care • Follow specified screening protocols developed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist when conducting speech-language screenings. • Document evidence of treatment, and objective, non-interpretive data, regarding client’s performance.
